Can't afford either so one or t'other is pushing it Though I have got the wife to see the plus side of building a quad...............energy/space savings. But she knows me.........that I'll end up having yet another rig instead of 3 less

Cheap option:
Q6600. Abit IB9 2GB Adata PC5300.
£237.
Favoured option:
Q6600. (GO stepping) Gigabyte GA P35C-DS3R. Geil Ultra DDR2 2.0GB PC6400
£315.
@ Bigbear, wife not really moaning......just trying to get bearings on bill costs at the new house..........stupid electric cooker doesn't help.

As I am not an extreme overclocker I wonder if the extra £11 for the GO stepping is worth bothering with. A third option would be a cheapish matx board with onboard video...........

Grrr, need to add £30+ for a decent heatsink Could use a nice case for it too really Oh, and a PCI Express graphics card. Oh dear, it's starting to add up Must admit, sometimes I envy the "normal" folk who don't run dc.........they can afford to have a single uber rig, instead of my "make do and mend" o/c rigs

You got's it backwards there pup... You build them for what you want them to do... If they can also crunch that's just a plus. Limit yourself to a max number of running rigs. and when your slowest one hits that number it falls off the operational list and gets "donated" to someone else. I've set myself a limit of 4 max running rigs. Means I've got allowance for one more on the strikeforce.. Might as well be a quad.

I set a limit due to heat.......too many computers makes the house warm......

I voted you run the singles into the ground so you can save up for what you really want.

Pup is right on this one...it costs a lot less to run a dual........
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
But how long would the singles have to run to cost that?

You know your going to want to OC it..

Well, if they're that expensive to run, I withdraw my vote. But I'd still get rid of them and pocket the cost until I could buy the new rig.

It is a combo of a lot of factors......they use less power, create less heat, and do more bang for the buck........

Pup, definately go for the GO - it uses less power, runs cooler and hence OC's far better - many are getting it from 2.4Ghz to 3.5Ghz on air really easily, and still getting good temps at 100% load Get either that Gigabyte DS3R board, or the Asus P5K - and add the new smaller and cheaper, but still excellent Thermalright Ultima-90 heatsink. In fact I can probably let you know by the end of tomorrow how it performs, as I have one sitting here ready to build

I build to o/c and crunch.............running "programmes" is a plus Ady..........Had already decided on the Gigabyte, only mentioned the Abit cos of the "bundle" price..........but I think that's one of the Abits that has cold boot issues. Asus..........ugh. Won't be overclocking much cos that means serious cooling/noise and I'm getting tired of the noise. It's funny, I spend quite some time at silent pc review..........if they knew the racket that surrounds me they'd have a coronary

Hi GP ..........One also has to factor in savings made by "recycling" parts from the older rigs.....hard disc and such.
