Where am I ???

Pinky - looks like the overall WCG stats are borked in everyones sigs for some reason  Huh?

Mine shows something like 1.6M at the moment, when it should be around 23M - and others over at WCG are reporting similar probs, including 2 who seem to be sharing exactly the same stats:

Quote
[gunner], I see what you mean. I looked at both your stat banner ( http://dcstat.com/sig/3033.gif ) and Blizzie's ( http://dcstat.com/sig/3021.gif ) and yes, both are reporting the exact same numbers. You may want to check in at the forums over on DCStat.com to see if they're having problems.

Maybe WCG have changed the way they do the stats feed?

All seem to be back in line again now  Thumbs Up - was that you waving your magic wand Pinky?  Thinking

[JC] or is it that it corrects itself/goes haywire at certain update times?  Huh?

was it regular wcg stats, or wcg boinc?  Thinking  shouldn't be going haywire if it's regular wcg stats, unless like you said they changed something.  i don't really follow the forums over there, so i don't know when/if they do....

found where y'all were talking about it over there... Thinking  if pinning it to a single update time, i'm guessing it's the 9pm one my time - 3am your time.  next update that "fixes" it would be 9am.  Thinking  will look tonight to see if anything looks odd...

i'll need to do something - right now, i think a couple of things colided at once to create this issue.  wcg xml stats being messed up (and i have the file downloads to prove it lol ), host seems to have started limiting the amount of time scripts can run (i know they were running longer then 30 sec in the past), and possibly one other thing i can't quite pin-point yet Thinking

Sounds like they be locking a little - resource issues, every stat generator hitting them at the same times could be causing the issue. The XML errors could be a sign that they are trying to improve the process on their end. Plus XML is a bloated verbose and generally nasty way to exchange data....... Tongue

possibly resource issues....though in general, they're a host that oversells horribly, which generally means they don't care as much about resource issues. rofl

yep, i figure that about the xml issues, they apparently made some upgrades to it recently, just waiting to hear if they upgraded it in a way that's good for me. lol  oh and yes, xml is far too bloated...though it beats having to scrape the html pages rofl

Point taken about scraping html - nice idea would be an set DB format that all stats generators would agree on........... but that would require a great deal of corporation between the developers and the stats folks, but could be re-usable across all bionic projects............. I know - pie in the sky Yap yap yap

one of the guys at find-a-drug had a pretty good idea, of parsing their stat-pages, and outputting in a nice csv format.

right now at least all the boinc projects are standard....can use basically the same parser for all of those.  non-boinc projects on the other hand.... Doh

workin on it... tried running the stats script manually, and it seems to be working fine...so maybe it's more an issue of timing, possibly running it during stat update times. Thinking

i've moved my stat update times for wcg up one hour....hopefully the errors i was seeing in the wcg feed was more an issue of timing (starting to look like it).

still need to make sure my scripts aren't being cut off by the 30 sec limit i was seeing from my host Thinking

erm....i'm looking for something a bit more accurate.... Tongue

i have a scheduler set up.  i say run stat script at 7:30.  wcg stats might not finish till 7:45, creating errors. Doh  seems once my script hits about the 225th person, wcg stats update is done and my end works fine....but if you're before 225ish, good luck trying to get accurate stats. Doh

i've bumped my scheduling up another 40ish minutes for that run, hopefully it covers the time gap that's giving issue. Doh

If you are wanting to make sure the stats have been completed over to WCG,  you want to hold your run till prob quarter after 8pm your time.
(been taking WCG bout an hour to update the stats, and sometimes they run over..)

yep, i was thinking the server was on mountain time for a second....and hadn't suspected that the dc stat wcg update time had jumped to nearly an hour and a half... Doh  thought it was half an hour...but after wcg tweaked their site so that you can't request xml feed more then once every 7-8 seconds, i had to throttle my script to be REALLY slow Brick Wall

woot...i just found a way to make wcg's recent update to xml feed work for me.  still have to run with the 7-8 second timer between requests...but now there's a way i can request 8 people at a time, instead of one at a time.  current 82 min update time....have to only request 1/8 of what was doing  before, which could cut updates down to under 15 minutes. Scribbling to Order

Pinky, a post in your thread at WCG -

mousie,

If you are continuing to see those periodic errors, please use the contact us option to send a message to us (I will want to find out at what times and ip address your are fetching the data from and other such details so that I can look at what happened). Just reference this thread and ask to have it sent to Kevin. We have not currently put a throttle on the XML interfaces (and hopefully we will not have to) so that shouldn't be the problem (unless your are using the old RSS stats feeds).

thanks,
Kevin

i don't recall what it does when it can't find my boinc stat server (aka pinky's desktop) actually... rofl  best case scenario, noone gets updated.  worst case, everyone's sig will say "username not found".  i don't think there's much in between, except for maybe seti. lol

actually, noting that it's not affecting everyone, i think it's a timing issue again... Doh  wcg stat updates taking longer then usual and/or site busier at the time update was made... Doh

what was said earlier regarding boinc stats still holds...guess if it can't find stats, it gives 0. Doh

The WCG stats took longer today than usual for some reason.  Only about 30mins, but that's enough to throw off anything automated trying to get 'em right on the usual time.
