Title: MJ12 Talk
Post by: TLD on July 07, 2006, 12:29:26 AM
Be sure to read about this project as it uses lots of bandwidth and may cause you to go over your limit if you have a limited internet account.

Don't even think about this one, DA. I know you're bandwidth challenged.

You ought to put up a link for the download.

I got 2gig peak and 2gig off peak per month. Only downloads are counted but I can still blow BIG holes in that with regular updates etc.

I'm not even SLIGHTLY inclined to get involved with sommat like that.  WAY too rich for my tastes.  :-[

I could run thru 2 gig in an hour on a really good day, let alone a WHOLE MONTH.......

I'm going full speed ahead with this one also. Seems to be a way more productive use of my bandwidth.

Depends on how much bandwidth you want to pull.
Set the desired connection speed...
Increase Worker and max open bucket numbers till you you get to the speed setting.
I was running with some monster numbers for open buckets and workers till Comcast started getting speed complaints from my neighbors and decided I was part of the cause...  Gee don't know why, Only transfered lil over half a terabyte in less than a month.

Title: Re: MJ12 Talk
Post by: Stephenish on July 22, 2006, 07:08:25 PM
I set my connection speed. I'm interested to know how many workers and buckets to make. My download is set to 1.5Mbps and upstream is set to 384Kbps.

Title: Re: MJ12 Talk
Post by: pwrguru on July 23, 2006, 12:34:53 AM
I run at least 150 workers, 25 open buckets, and 100 cached buckets....Also I dropped the wait time for uploading and put all cpu priorities to at least normal... But that is just me of course....

Title: Re: MJ12 Talk
Post by: Stephenish on August 12, 2006, 07:07:29 PM
Well, I tried those settings.

Couldn't use the internet at the same time as MJ-12, however.

So, I came to the conclusion that Google is good enough, and I'd rather crunch for the cure to cancer, and etc.

Post by: pwrguru on August 16, 2006, 12:34:52 AM
At least you gave it a try...I usually just snooze the downloads for about an hour while I am online in South Florida since that is only a 1.5 meg line.....That way I can surf hassle free and it runs by itself the rest of the time....

Title: Re: MJ12 Talk
Post by: TLD on August 23, 2006, 10:17:01 PM
In options 2,048 Downstream 384 upstream set sliders to 50%, 30 workers 10 buckets that on a 4 meg conection and still surfing.

It is a trial and error sort of thing.... It differs for each person....

Title: Re: MJ12 Talk

And a huge turn-over also... Not too many are dedicated to crunching for the long haul....

The heftier power bills that go along with crunching a big farm 24/7 will test anyone's dedication.

While in the process of attempting to find raw MJ-12 stats to work with for my dcStat project......I started beginning to wonder just what sort of search engine MJ-12 is attempting to make...

I thought "raw" was a good keyword to search their site for when looking for raw stats.  Umm...  http://mj12search.kicks-ass.org:8888/search.jhh?q=raw

Question for the MJ12 runners - do they allow you to change your username whenever you want or something? :?

I ask because I see a strange inconsistency in my dcstat databases specifically having to do with one username...  The inconsistency is causing part of the update procedure to completely fail...

Looks like you can change it right on the client.

k, guess I'll have to make slight modification to take that into account...
