Done the same here, but on the new 'older' lappy it takes to long for a stats freak.

  Nah Pinky..  Service install of boinc is just that...  Having the manager start when you log in so you can monitor/control it is an option.

Only slightly cranky

There's a check box when you install that sets the manager to start when you log in.  If you want to be rid of the icon just take it out of you "startup" folder.

If you don't want the taskbar icon, remove the Boinc shortcut from the startup folder.  Thumbs Up

Vista has some special requirements for programs installed in Program Files.  It is much more lenient if BOINC is installed in C:\BOINC.  BOINC 6.0 is being written to install onto Vista without causing special problems.  Right now, the intention is to always install BOINC 6.0 as a service, doing away with a lot of options that confuse new users.

After all, Vista will confuse them without any help from BOINC 6.
