Stopping in at best buy next time I'm out ins Savannah is still on the list so I can see one of them fancy led sets in action..
Upscaled resolution you ask?  Res on the 24" monitor is 1920x1200 (16x10) Res on the 32" TV is 1366x768 (16x9) So on the TV the SD stuff is blow up to just about twice it's original size.

Nope. Just don't see Blu-ray being worth the extra 5-10 bucks over the regular DVD..

Tho the copy of Marley and ME was a pretty good deal. Came with both Blu-ray AND DVD copies of the movie.

well, i've just about confirmed my suspicion that the stuttering on hddvd playback when i had the rig on xp was likely due to codec type issues....runs perfectly smooth after bumping it to 7....

Well i cut the commercials out of several movies today and readyboost made a noticeable difference stitching the movie back together. However during the encoding process from .mpg to .avi there was very little if any noticeable difference..
I think i'll pick up an 8G stick next order and try that..

AVI?  Why AVI?  You stitching DIVX or XVid for compression with that?

Encoding always takes a while for me. Going from (Oh what is it they use with the DVDs...)  Mpg to MP4 takes anywhere from 30-45min depending on the settings I use.  But I wind up with a file that's about a gig smaller and the AC3 encoded 6 channel sound.

speaking of filling of hard drive with vids....i decided to finally fill up the TB drive sitting in the HTPC, playing rip the dvd collection today.  getting closer to the empty mark. No Evil  curious...i seem to recall reading not so good stuff about the 2TB drives a while back...anyone hear if they've improved since? Thinking  i know a 1TB drive is cheaper, but as i only have space in the box for one more drive, may as well make the most of that space when i do put something there. Thinking

Do like I did Pinky..  get you one of them 2bay Rosewill external enclosures. (USB)  Very nice..
(Not the one with the ESATA connection tho.  Too many negative reviews on that one.)
I haven't heard of any improvement on the 2tb drives yet..

may just throw another 1tb directly into the case then...no space in entertainment center to comfortably set a box of that size. Thinking

Is a lil bitty thing. Barely larger than the drives.  Pull six DVD's off the shelf and you have plenty of space for it.  Tongue  Roll Eyes

i looked at the specs and pulled out a measuring tape to be sure. Tongue  thing measures just barely 3 inches wide....the space i have on top of the pc is barely 2 inches. space on top of the receiver looks about the same, and even if it was more, i wouldn't want to put hard drives on top of something that gets hot enough to cook an egg on.  enough space on top of the cable box, but that gets pretty toasty when running long enough as well. lol  so i'm left with...the shelf with the wii stuff, which probably is farther then the cable will reach (i know i know, get a longer usb lol ) or on top of the sub, and something tells me putting hard drives on top of sub is not so good idea. No Evil
